WTO says China's entry into world body is "healthy"
The chief of the World Trade Organisation has described China's impending entry into the global trade body this week as an historic, healthy development for the global trading system. Mike Moore, described the conclusion of 15 years of negotiations for the accession of Beijing as "an enormously historic matter". Speaking at a meeting of the WTO in Qattar, Mr Moore said negotiators are trying to bridge differences and reach agreement on an agenda for a new round of negotiations to further lower trade barriers.
China concluded in September its talks with WTO members on the terms and the timetable for its trade commitments within the WTO.
Trade ministers are due to rubber stamp the agreement later this week.
