Annan meets Hu, hails China's help for Afrcia
United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan has held talks in New York, with China's Vice-President Hu Jintao and hailed China's cooperation with African countries.
In a statement, Mr Annan's spokesman's office said the meeting was warm and cordial, and Mr Hu "reiterated China's view of the UN as an irreplaceable organisation and voiced China's full support for it."
The statement says the secretary general particularly praised China for its cooperation, help and assistance for African countries.
Mr Hu, widely described as China's leader-in-waiting, rang the opening Bell at the New York stock exchange and paid a 10-minute visit to the ruins of the World Trade Center, destroyed in the September 11 terrorist attacks.
