Taiwan goes to the polls
In Taiwan, polls have opened to elect a new parliament.
However neither of the two main parties -- the pro-independence Democratic Progressive Party of President Chen Shui-bian and the Nationalist Party -- are expected to win an outright majority.
The Nationalists hold a small majority in the outgoing parliament but are tipped to lose about 20 seats.
That would leave then without control in the Parliament for the first time in its 52-year history.
