World AIDS Day marked by events across Asia

World Aids day has been marked by events across the Asian region to highlight the millions of people facing a slow death by AIDS.

Governments and activists pushed the message, still apparently unheeded by many Asians, that unprotected sex and needle-sharing can kill.

The activities came as a UN report released this week showed HIV or AIDS cases in Asia and the Pacific had reached 7.1 million.

But experts warned Asian governments were still not doing enough to stop the spread of AIDS.
