Semiconductor sales continue slump...but decline slows
The value of worldwide semiconductor sales has fallen by more than 44 per cent over the past 12 months, but there are signs the decline is slowing.
The US-based Semiconductor Industry Association says sales totalled about 20.5 billlion Australian dollars, down from 37 billion a year ago
However, the association says September sales were 2.5 percent below the value of the August 2001 -- an improvement from the 3.5 percent month-to-month decline reported in August.
Compared with September 2000, September sales in the European market were lower by almost 42 percent; the Americas market was down 58.6 percent, and Asia Pacific excluding Japan was down 31 percent.
In the Japan market, sales declined almost 43 percent from last September.
