Atomic Energy Agency denies negotiations with N-Korea over nuclear pla
The International Atomic Energy Agency has denied reports that it is in talks with North Korea over wider inspections of the country's key nuclear facilities. Agency officials say Pyongyang had offered to let inspectors visit an isotope production laboratory in its Yongbyon complex, but said this was not a "frozen facility" and the offer did not amount to a breakthrough. This came after South Korean officials said the UN agency was negotiating with North Korea over the inspection of the two critical facilities.
The agency says it has welcomed the offer to visit the Yongbyon isotope production complex.
The North froze its suspected nuclear weapons program in its Yongbyon complex under a 1994 accord with the United States in exchange for nuclear reactors producing less weapons-grade plutonium.
