Japan renews strong support for US in anti-terror campaign
Japan has expressed strong support for America's anti-terror campaign.
It comes two weeks after Japan sent a naval flotilla to back-up U-S forces in its first deployment of defence personnel to an overseas conflict since World War Two.
The director-general of Japan's Defence Agency, General Nakatani, told U-S Defence Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld, that Japan considered the U-S fight against terrorism its own.
General Nakatani said it's the first significant operation of Japanese self-defence forces abroad, with the fight against terrorism the first trial to the new 50 years of the Japan-US alliance.
A small group of Japanese vessels including a destroyer and minesweeper has been dispatched to the Indian Ocean to provide non-combat support for the U-S assault on Afghanistan's Taliban and Osama bin Laden's terror network.
