China trying to resolve trade dispute with Japan

China's official entry into the World Trade Organisation hasn't helped Beijing to resolve a prolonged trade dispute with Japan.

China correspondent Tom O'Byrne reports

"Talks in Beijing between trade ministers from both countries failed to resolve the stand-off that still may end up before the WTO's dispute settling process. The trade spat started in April when Japan imposed import restrictions on tatami mat rushes, spring onions and certain mushrooms in a bid to protect its own farmers from Chinese imports. China retaliated with punitive tariffs against Japanese cars, air conditioners and mobile phones among the biggest of Japan's exports to China. Trade officials are counting down to December the 21st when Japan must decide whether to make the restrictions permanent.
