Japan continues search after sinking suspected spy boat
A search is underway in the East China Sea Sunday for about 15 crew members of a suspected North Korean spy ship which sank after a gun battle with Japanese patrol boats.
A Japanese naval spokesman says 12 patrol boats and 13 planes have been mobilised in the search for the crew members.
A senior official at the coastguard and rescue division, told a news conference that the sunken ship "closely resembled one of the North Korean spy boats previously encountered".
The boat, which ignored coastguard orders to stop in a Japanese-administered sector of international waters, sank late on Saturday after being pursued for several hours by a flotilla of 20 boats, the coastguard spokesman said.
