Charges against six Chinese fishing captains to be heard next month
Charges against six Chinese captains allegedly found fishing illegally in Australian waters off the cost of the Northern Territory, will be heard in Darwin next month.
The men were detected in October on six Indonesian-flagged trawlers and charged with being in command of an unlicensed foreign fishing vessel within the Australian Fishing Zone.
The men are in Immigration custody on-board the trawlers in Darwin harbour.
Another 114 crew members are still on the vessels, awaiting a decision on the future of the boats.
The Australian Fisheries Management Authority and the boat's Chinese owners have not been able to agree on what the vessels and their catch are worth.
If the owners pay an agreed bond, the boats and the crews will be released.
