China urges stability as U-S missile pact talks end
China has called on Washington to preserve global stability following President George W-Bush's move to abandon the Anti-Ballistic Missile treaty.
In a statement, China's Foreign Ministry stressed the importance of safeguarding international military control, the disarmament system and the stability of global strategy in the current circumstances.
The Foreign Ministry also says Beijing hopes the United States will heed the opinion of the majority of the world's nations.
Meanwhile, Russia's Foreign Ministry says talks on strategic stability are underway between senior Russian and Chinese diplomats in Moscow.
China and Russia, long opposed to Mr Bush's plan to build a national missile defence system, have shown muted responses to his decision to pull out of the 1972 A-B-M treaty.
America says its missile defence system would not be directed against China.
