Indian-owned cargo ship boarded by British anti-terrorist police
British anti-terrorist police along with naval and customs officers have intercepted and boarded an Indian-owned cargo ship in the English Channel.
A spokesman for Scotland Yard described the move as 'a major security operation'.
However, the spokesman refused to say why the boat had aroused suspicion, and declined to comment on media reports that the boat had posed a threat to national security.
Media reports say the ship, the MV Nisha, was intercepted off the southern English coast.
The ship, owned by the Bombay-based Great Eastern Shipping Company, was heading for a sugar refinery in east London carrying 26,000 tonnes of raw sugar. It had recently stopped in the east African nation of Djibouti, and picked up the sugar in Mauritius.
