Afghan tribal elders want US bombing to end

Tribal elders from eastern Afghanistan have appealed to the new interim government to try to stop continued U-S airstrikes.

Eric Campbell reports, bombing has resumed around the former al-Qaeda stronghold of Tora Bora:

"The tribal elders from Afghanistan's Pakhtia province claim the continued airstrikes were unneccessary and were killing innocent civilians. One leader Aid Mohammad says about 30 civilians were killed in Thursday's bombing of a suspected al-Qaeda hideout. The U-S insists its airstrikes are directed solely at military targets. B-52 bombers resumed attacks on the hills surrounding Tora Bora overnight according to the Afghan-Islamic Press. America is concerned some al-Qaeda fighters could still be holed up in caves or nearby villages on the Pakistan border.
