Indonesia wants a part in drawing new maritime boundaries

Indonesia says it wants a part in drawing new maritime boundaries in the Timor Sea between East Timor and Australia.

Indonesia, Australia and East Timor are holding their first trilateral meeting in Bali, on the future and security of an independent East Timor.

Indonesia's Foreign Minister, Hassan Wirajuda, says the issue may be discussed at the talks today:

In another development, Mr Wirajuda says he's urged Indonesia's President, Megawati Sukarnoputri, to attend the celebrations for East Timor's indepedence in May.

"Of course, there is a possibility of the two lines, left and right, of the formally East Timor gap that might touch the area under Australian jurisdiction. So there is a possibility. In fact we have discussed the possibility in the future of the three of us to agree on tri-junction points, somewhere in the Timor Sea."
