Indonesia' Speaker named as suspect in multi-million dollar scam Indonesia's parliamentary speaker has been named as a suspect in a multi-million dollar scam. Parliamentary speaker, Akbar Tanjung is accused of misusing about eight million dollars of state funds, money allocated to feed the poor. In a country close to economic collapse it's a scandal. Critics suspect the millions of dollars went towards political campaigning to help re-elect Golkar, Akbar Tanjung's party, the party which ruled for decades under former President Suharto. In his defence Akbar Tanjung says he gave the millions of dollars to an Islamic foundation, entrusting it to distribute food packages to the poor. But there's no evidence of any such transfer. 8/01/02 10:16:13 | ABC Radio Australia News
