Pentagon plays down lack of success in capturing Mullah Omar

The Pentagon has dismissed suggestions it's relying too heavily on locals in Afghanistan for intelligence information.

Washington Correspondent Leigh Sales reports, defence officials are playing down their lack of success in capturing Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar:

"Last week, the Pentagon indicated it was close to finding the elusive Omar, with a major military offensive mounted northwest of Kandahar. But again, the Taliban leader seems to have slipped away, spokeswoman Victoria Clarke, denies the US military is relying too heavily on locals for its intelligence, making it susceptible to misinformation. "In terms of our strategy, it's never dependent on a single thing. It's never dependent solely on working with the Afghans on the ground." The Pentagon confirmed that U-S warplanes today bombed another terrorist training camp in Afghanistan.
