UK Prime Minister flies into Afghan airbase
Britain's Prime Minister, Tony Blair, has arrived in Afghanistan.
Mr Blair, who flew in from Pakistan, is the first Western head of government to visit Afghanistan since the Soviet invasion in 1979.
Afghanistan's interim leader, Hamid Karzai, greeted Mr Blair and his wife as they arrived at Bagram air base, north of the capital of Kabul.
They were also welcomed by several hundred British and United States troops.
The British leader says his visit underlines the international commitment to Afghanistan, and praised British troops taking part in peacekeeping duties.
Mr Blair says he also wanted to make clear to Afghanistan's new interim administration that the international commitment to the country is for the long run.
