Special team set to investigate Indonesia's parliamentary speaker
Indonesian state prosecutors are setting up a special team to investigate parliamentary speaker Akbar Tanjung.
Mr Tanjung, who also leads the Golkar party, has been declared a suspect in the alleged misuse of almost four million dollars allocated to feed the poor.
The team, which would be established this week, will decide if Mr Tanjung should be detained or placed under a travel ban.
Mr Tanjung who has protested his innocence says he gave the money to Raudlatul Jannah, a little-known Islamic foundation, to distribute food packages to the poor.
But critics suspect the money went to fund Golkar's 1999 election campaign.
Mr Tanjung says he has no intention of resigning either his chairmanship of Golkar or his leadership of the House of Representatives.
