North Korea asks United Nations to probe 1950's massacres
North Korea has asked the United Nations to investigate massacres of hundreds of civilians allegedly perpetrated by American troops in the 1950's.
In a letter to the U-N Security Council, North Korea's ambassador to the U-N says the world body should bear due responsibility for the killings as they were carried out by troops under the U-N name.
The letter claims U-S troops killed 35-thousand innocent civilians during the two months it occupied Sinchon County, near Pyongyang, in late 1950.
US-North Korean ties have been tense since President George W-Bush took office one year ago and suspended dialogue amid a review of U-S policy.
