India on alert for Republic Day
India has celebrated its annual Republic Day with more than 60-thousand soldiers and police guarding the streets of New Delhi to thwart possible atacks by Islamic guerrillas.
But in Kashmir, Indian police say suspected Muslim militants have blown up a television transmitter.
They say several armed militants descended on a village 60 kilometers north of Kashmir's summer capital, Srinagar, blowing up a mobile van that contained the transmitter.
Separatist militants have in the past carried out attacks on Republic Day against security forces and official celebrations.
More than 35-thousand people have been killed in Indian-administered Kashmir since the launch of a Muslim separatist insurgency in 1989.
