Shanty town fire leaves hundreds homeless in Cambodia

Authorities in Cambodia say a fire has devastated a riverside shantytown in the centre of the country, leaving 15-hundred people homeless.

The fire in the city of Kampong Chhnang is said to have started in a small wooden building used to smoke fish, and spread quickly in the densely populated residential area.

The city is about 75 kilometers north of the capital, Phnom Penh, on the Sap river.

Officials say there were no casualties but emergency food is needed for the victims, most of whom lost everything they owned.
