Injured Australian soldier returns home

An Australian soldier injured in Afghanistan last month has returned to Australia from Germany and is resting in hospital.

The S-A-S soldier stepped on a landmine in Southern Afghanistan about three weeks ago, losing two toes and fracturing his foot and ankle.

Meanwhile ... Australian troops in southern Afghanistan have been involved in fewer reconaissance operations in the past week.

Defence Force spokesman Brigadier Gary Bornholt says it's been to take a break from intense work, and to service equipment.

we're not obviously holding at a low tempo for any long period of time, this just happens to be that in the past week they've reduced their operational tempo for some repair and maintenance stuff in the theatre, um not that is likely to then go back to the normal plane once that's done.
