North Korea withdraws invitation to U-S delegation
North Korea has reportedly withdrawn an invitation to four former American ambassadors to visit Pyongyang for informal meetings with North Korean leaders.
Robert Scalapino, of the University of California, says the group were simply notified by the North Korean mission in New York of the cancellation.
Most of the ambassadors, all of whom served in South Korea, believe the trip was called-off because of U-S President George W-Bush's State of the Union speech, in which he referred to North Korea, Iran and Iraq as an axis of evil.
Mr Scalapino would have gone to North Korea with the former ambassadors -- William Gleysteen, Richard Walker, Donald Gregg and Steven Bosworth.
The Bush administration says North Korea is dangerous because it's a state sponsor of terrorism and is developing weapons of mass destruction.
