Powell meets South Korean FM in New York
South Korea's Foreign Minister Han Seung-Soo has asked the United States to clarify Washington's North Korea policy, following President George W. Bush's heightened rhetoric towards Pyongyang. Mr Han met US Secretary of State Colin Powell in New York on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum, three days after Mr Bush designated North Korea as part of an "axis of evil," alongside Iran and Iraq. US State Department spokesman Richard Boucher says Mr Han asked what the speech meant for America's approach to North Korea.
Mr Powell explained that the United States remained committed to its offer to talk to North Korea "any time, any place," and to South Korea's policy of engaging the Stalinist north.
