North Korea refutes US concern over nuclear programme
North Korea has angrily refuted what it calls "provocative" US concerns over its suspected nuclear weapons program.
However, Pyongyang made no immediate reaction to President George W. Bush's threat of possible action against the Stalinist state. This came after Mr Bush's state of the union speech in which he put North Korea among a small group of "the world's most dangerous regimes".
A foreign ministry spokesman in Pyongyang denounced a recent US call for the North to stop proliferating its nuclear weapons technology and to accept international inspections into its nuclear facilities.
The North broke off official contacts with the United States and South Korea last year after Mr Bush took office signalling a tougher line with the communist government, especially over its weapons programme.
