Maoist rebels kill 127 people in weekend raids in Nepal
Maoist rebels killed 127 people, mainly policemen and soldiers, in weekend raids on several government installations in Nepal.
Officials say that at least 49 policemen and four others, including a top bureaucrat, were killed on Saturday when the rebels attacked government offices and police posts 600 kilometres west of Kathmandu.
Home Ministry officials say a total of 48 army soldiers were also killed in the raids.
More than 550 people, mostly rebels, have died since the government in November ordered the military to crush a revolt by the rebels who are opposed to Nepal's constitutional monarchy.
