Eight people dead in latest fighting in Kashmir
Eight people are dead and four Indian security force personnel have been injured in separatist-related violence in Kashmir.
Indian police say one militant was killed and two security force personnel were injured in a landmine explosion north of the summer capital Srinagar. They say the explosion took place minutes after troops raided the hide-out following a tip-off from locals. Indian troops shot dead three Muslim militants in the village of Hari in the southern Kashmiri district of Poonch overnight after a cordon and search operation.
Police say a young Kashmiri boy was killed when he strayed into crossfire between militants and security forces in the town of Baramulla.
Unidentified gunmen shot dead a student near Achabal in the south, after abducting him from his house overnight. Police say two more militants died elsewhere in Kashmir on Thursday.
