North Korea accuses US of nuclear blackmail
North Korea says said a reported United States nuclear weapons strategy which targets seven countries for possible attacks, would encourage a global nuclear arms race.
In the first reaction from Pyongyang to leaks of the US plan, the official Korean Central News Agency described it as 'an inhuman plan to spark a global nuclear arms race'.
The news agency said the US was pursuing what it called 'nuclear blackmail'. According to American news reports, the Defence Department's Nuclear Policy Review calls for a shift away from the Cold War stance of using the country's nuclear arsenal to deter a nuclear strike from the former Soviet Union.
The reports say it sees China, Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Russia and Syria as potential targets for nuclear strikes.
