Thailand confirmed as venue for face to face Sri Lanka talks
Thailand will host the first face-to-face peace talks in seven years between the Sri Lankan government and the Tamil Tiger rebels.
Norway's Deputy Foreign Minister, Vida Helgesen, announced the move after a meeting with the Thai Foreign Minister.
The timing of the talks has yet to be decided.
Norway says the negotiations will aim at reaching a political settlement to the conflict in Sri Lanka.
The conflict has claimed more than 60-thousand lives in the last 30 years as the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam fights for an independent Tamil minority in the north and east of the island.
On Wednesday the Sri Lankan government said peace talks were expected to begin in the first week of May.
