Eleven killed and 25 injured in Indian Kashmir
Eleven people were killed and 25 others injured when Muslim suicide bombers stormed a revered Hindu temple packed with worshippers in Indian Kashmir's winter capital, Jammu.
The daring raid on the temple in a bustling shopping area of Jammu heightened sectarian tensions in Hindu-dominated city and prompted authorities to sound a high security alert.
Police said two of the three militants who attacked the shrine were killed instantly, along with four policemen and four civilians who included two Hindu devotees.
Twenty-five others were injured in exchanges of fire.
Police said the militants arrived in a white Ambassador car and exploded a grenade at the temple's gate before opening fire from AK-47 rifles.
The temple was packed with some 250 Hindu worshippers and the cross-firing sparked a stampede. Police claim the attackers belonged to the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba Islamic guerrilla group, which India blames for carrying out an attack on its national parliament in New Delhi in December which left 14 people dead.
