Pakistan President close to deciding on referendum
Pakistani President, Pervez Musharraf, is expected to decide soon whether to hold a referendum on whether he should stay in power for another five years.
Local media said General Musharraf appeared to have left little doubt in the minds of top journalists he met on Saturday that the referendum would go ahead, probably by the first week of May.
The President, who took power in a coup in October 1999, was quoted as saying he had not had enough time to consolidate political and economic reforms.
He was also quoted as saying 90 percent of the politicians he had met supported the referendum plan.
