US trade envoy adds China and Japan to his tour of Asia
America's Trade Representative, Robert Zoellick, has extended his tour of Asia, adding China and Japan to his itinerary to discuss "growth prospects" in the Asia-Pacific region.
The visit comes amid the first sign of an economic recovery in the United States, which the administration of President George W-Bush is determined to consolidate.
It will be the U-S trade envoy's first visit to China since its accession to the World Trade Organization.
During his three-day visit, Mr Zoellick will seek to learn more about China's economic reforms and its implementation of its new WTO obligations.
The previously unannounced stops come as Mr Zoellick completed a four-day tour of Southeast Asia, during which he visited Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia.
