Nepal's Maoist rebels organise a nationwide five-day strike
Nepal's Maoist rebels have called a five-day nationwide strike despite appeals from all political parties and the business community for them to drop the action.
Security forces have killed 15 suspected Maoist rebels over the previous 24 hours as the kingdom braces for the unprecedented shutdown which starts later today.
The rebels have intensified their attacks on government targets across the country over the past two days, blowing up a bridge, a mining plant a phone transmission centre.
The strike comes as an American military team tours areas near Maoist strongholds on a mission to inform the local troops on how to put down the six-year insurgency.
