Cambodia and Vietnam finalise agreement to crackdown on drug traffick
Cambodia and Vietnam have finalised an agreement to crackdown on Asian and European drug traffickers.
Cambodia's Narcotics Authority said there would be a particular focus on the import of relatively cheap chemical drugs made in Thailand. Drug consumption among Cambodian youngsters has risen recently with ecstacy and other drugs available cheaply at nightclubs in the capital. Vietnam and Cambodia have agreed to share intelligence, cooperation between agents and set-up Border Liason Offices with Japanese funds through the UN Drug Control Program.
A similar agreement is expected to be reached with Thailand in a two-day meeting to be held in Phnom Pehn later this week.
Cambodia has been used as a transit point for heroin and opium trafficking for years, but the government maintains it has adopted strict policies to fight the illegal trading of narcotics.
