A warning that Indonesian unrest is causing a food crisis

The United Nations food agency says most of the more than one million Indonesians driven from their homes by sectarian and social unrest over the past three years are poor, jobless and ill.

It says the number of poor people among the internally displaced Indonesians is about three times higher than the overall average of 19 percent at district level.

The preliminary report is based on a World Food Program survey in collaboration with the Indonesian government.

It found that 54 percent of the internal refugees have no jobs while 55 percent of households are living below the poverty line.
