Police arrest member of Indonesia's Kopassus special forces
Indonesian military police have arrested a member of the Kopassus army special forces for allegedly trying to assassinate a key witness in the murder of Papuan independence leader Theys Hiyo Eluay.
Media reports say the Kopassus sergeant has been arrested in the Papua provincial capital Jayapura on Saturday.
Captain Farid from the Kopassus headquarters in Jakarta, confirmed the arrest and said military police in Jayapura were holding him for questioning about the alleged attempt to murder the witness. He declined to elaborate.
Mr Eluay was abducted by an unidentified group as he drove home from a celebration hosted by Kopassus and other forces on the outskirts of Jayapura on the evening of November 10. His body was found the next day.
