Australian federal police to establish a post in Cambodia
A permanent Australian Federal Police post has been formally opened in Cambodia today.
The ceremony at the Australia embassy in Phnom Penh involved the director general of Cambodia's national police, General Hok Lundy, and the Australian Ambassador, Louise Hand.
Australia says the police liaison position will help deal with people smuggling and trans-national crime.
Australia's Justice Minister, Chris Ellison, says a permanent officer was appointed to the Phnom Penh post in January.
Senator Ellison says the officer will work with Cambodia's law agencies, report on crime trends and exchange criminal intelligence.
