US says no apology on China plane
China has reportedly searched the U.S. Navy plane that was grounded in Hainan Island, removing equipment from it despite U.S. warnings not to do so.
The Cable television network CNN quotes Pentagon sources as saying the United States had told China it considered the plane sovereign territory that should not be violated.
This came as U-S Ambassador to China Joseph Prueher said China had almost "certainly" searched the aircraft.
The plane is being held on the southern island of Hainan after colliding Sunday with a Chinese fighter jet, and is believed to be packed with top-secret sophisticated eavesdropping equipment.
This came as China demanded demanded an apology over the incident - and the US State Department replied that no apology would be forthcoming.
President George W. Bush has demanded that the plane should be returned without "further damaging or tampering".
