Cambodian FM begins visit to Russia
Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Namhong has arrived in Moscow for a four-day trip aimed at preparing the ground for a visit by Prime Minister Hun Sen later in the year.
Hor Namhong will meet tomorrow with his Russian counterpart, Igor Ivanov, and Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov, a visit coinciding with the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Moscow and Phnom Penh.
The Cambodian prime minister is expected to ask Moscow to write off Phnom Penh's debts, accumulated in the Soviet era.
The Soviet Union was Vietnam's main financial backer and ally during its occupation of Cambodia which began with an invasion to oust the brutal Khmer Rouge regime and lasted a decade from 1979.
