Indonesian vice president vote continues

Indonesia's national assembly is entering a second round of voting for a new vice president to replace newly elected leader Megawati Sukarnoputri.

The three contesting candidates include Hamzah Haz, the leader of the Muslim-oriented United Development Party, Golkar Party chairman Akbar Tanjung and retired general Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

Earlier, deposed President Abduraham Wahid announced he would leave the presidential palance tomorrow to travel to the United States for a medical checkup.

Ginny Stein reports in his first interview since his ousting, he has hit out at those he believes were responsible for what he's called his illegal dismissal.

Sacked President Abdurahman Wahid says he will quit the Presidential Palace tomorrow before making his way to the United States with his family for a medical checkup. He's expected to remain in the United States for two weeks. Wahid today blamed a small group of military hardliners for his demise. He warned Indonesians will regret the parliament's decision to depose him when their new found freedoms are whittled away. MPs were tonight continuing the vote for a new Vice President. a first round of counting has reduced the five candidate field to three contenders.
