Indonesian, Philippine presidents to pursue peace and prosperity

The Presidents of the Philippines and Indonesia have pledged to pursue regional peace and prosperity.

As Shirley Escalante reports, Indonesia's president Megawati Sukarnoputri, arrived in Manila earlier today.

Visiting Indonesian President Megawati Sukarnoputri is urging Philippine President Gloria Arroyo to work for peace and prosperity in South East Asia. For her part President Arroyo thanked the Indonesian leader for her country's untiring support to peace and development in the Philippine island of Mindinao. Indonesia played host to peace talks between the Philippine Government and the rebel Moro Islamic Liberation Front. The meeting between Presidents Arroyo and Megawati also rekindled an old friendship - both were childhood friends whose fathers were former Presidents and both rose to political power much through the same way - a mass uprising. Twenty-six bilateral agreements on agriculture, trade and fisheries were signed by officials of both countries. Reporting from Manila, I'm Shirley Escalante for Radio Australia news.
