Bangladesh and India to strengthen SAARC
Bangladesh and India have agreed to try to strengthen the seven-nation South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation.
The agreement came at a meeting in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka between Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and India's visiting national security advisor Brajesh Mishra.
Mr Mishra was in Bangladesh for a one-day goodwill visit, the first high-level contact with the new Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led government since Khaleda Zia's election earlier this month.
The SAARC regional grouping is due to hold a long postponed summit in the Nepali capital Kathmandu in January.
As well as Bangladesh and India, the group includes Bhutan, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
