Indonesia increases pressure on US to end bombing
Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim nation, has stepped up efforts to seek an end to the US military strikes against Afghanistan.
The state-run Antara news agency quotes Co-ordinating Minister for Security and Political Affairs, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, as saying "all-out efforts by the Indonesian government are now afoot for that purpose."
Indonesia's President Megawati Sukarnoputri on Thursday made her strongest criticism so far of the US military campaign, saying no nation should attack another without presenting proof that its action was justified.
Several major parties in Indonesia's national assembly have urged the government to take a firmer stance against the US-led bombing of Afghanistan. Mrs Megawati also called for a halt to attacks during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
US President George W Bush has ruled out a let up in the military campaign.
