Tamil Tiger attacks kill eight in Sri Lanka

In Sri Lanka, Tamil Tiger rebels have carried out a spate of attacks against government forces, killing six soldiers and two children.

The rebels attacked an army checkpoint near the north-eastern town of Muttur.

Two children were killed when the rebels exploded a powerful landmine to ambush a military truck that was transporting wounded soldiers to hospital.
