Cambodian mass grave could be linked to prospectors find

Cambodian researchers believe they are close to locating a reported mass grave from the Killing Fields era which could explain what happened to the country's pre-communist leaders.

The Documentation Centre of Cambodia says their search has narrowed down to two sites about 15 kilometres west of Phnom Penh.

The grave is believed to contain the remains of about 800 victims of the Khmer Rouge.

Witnesses near the sites report the Khmer Rouge singled out every official above the rank of lieutenant for execution shortly after they seized power in April 1975.
