Australia looks to future with Indonesia and Timor

Ministers from Australia, East Timor and Indonesia are preparing for discussions on their future relationships.

Meetings have been arranged involving three Foreign Ministers and Australian Prime Minister, John Howard.

Graeme Dobell reports.

"In Sydney, Mr Howard is to meet Indonesia's Foreign Minister, Hassan Wirajuda, to prepare the way for a summit next year with President Megawati Sukarnoputri. Mr Wirajuda says the only way to deal with asylum seekers heading to Australia on Indonesian boats is to get an international solution, and Australia is to join Indonesia in hosting a multilateral conference in February. In Adelaide, the Foreign Minister, Alexander Downer, is to meet East Timor's Foreign Minister, Jose Ramos Horta. One aim is to get trilateral talks on key issues between Australia, Indonesia and East Timor."
