Government minister to visit Australian troops in East Timor

Australia's Defence minister, Robert Hill, will travel to East Timor next week to acknowledge the effort of Australian troops.

The Australian Defence Force personnel are working with the United Nations to help install the second transitional government.

Seantor Hill says many Australian defence force families are facing their second Christmas apart in three years:

"We do have a lot of Australian military people overseas this Christmas. They would obviously like to be with their families but are obviously unable to do so. We provide opportunities for Australians to communicate with them and wish them well in their missions and Im going to East Timor to visit the 15-hundred Australian men and women within the Defence Force that are visting, that are working there at the moment."
