Third case of mad cow disease in Japan
A third case of mad cow disease is reported to have been detected in central Japan.
The Jiji Press news agency has quoted officials in Saitima Prefecture, north of Tokyo, as saying a cow has tested positive in two tests.
Official confirmation is still to come.
The Japanese government announced the first case of the disease in September, and the second case was confirmed earlier this month.
The condition, a brain-wasting illness linked to the fatal variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in humans, has killed about 100 people in Britain since the mid-1980s.
