International donors pledge 2.4 billion to Vietnam

International donors pledged two-point-four billion dollars in assistance to help communist Vietnam maintain the momentum of market reforms despite the worsening global economic downturn.

The A-F-P Newsagency reported more money would be made available if the falloff in consumer demand in the major economies accelerated, further eroding Vietnam's export earnings.

Donor countries said the pledge was recognition that it's a difficult time for Vietnam.

The international donors acknowledged Vietnam was battling and trying hard to implement its reform agenda and the 2.4 million dollars should help with the process.
