Indian troops seize cache of explosives from Islamic rebels
Indian troops have seized a cache of explosives from Islamic rebels in Kashmir and said a suspect held in connection with the haul could face the death penalty under the country's tough new anti-terrorist law. The 150-kilogram haul occurred at a Muslim guerrilla hideout near the town of Sopore, 50 kilometers north of Srinagar.
Police said the high explosives were meant to be used against Indian military targets in Kashmir.
Known as RDX, the explosive is among the most popular among Kashmir's two dozen anti-Indian Islamic separatist organisations.
The police said one suspect arrested with the cache has been charged under the country's new and controversial anti-terror law, which allows execution as a punishment for people caught with contraband explosives.
